High Sierra Fly In 2023

Enjoy the world's largest backcountry fly-in the the scenic desert of northern Nevada.

Join us at "Dead Cow" lakebed on Private property for camaraderie, bonfires, stargazing, food trucks, and of course backcountry flying adventures and STOL Drag racing.  

Drive in directions:

Off 395 about 1 mile or so N of the Doyle loop, turn Right onto Laver Crossing. Then left at Hackstaff. Then right following signs to huge solar farm.

You should recognize where you are.

After power lines, go left on Rainbow and right on Bonanza. Bonanza dead ends making you go left then a 1/4 mile on the right is the final turn to lakebed. We will also have cones up!

Event Info and SignUp:

This year we are anticipating another very good turnout, however space is limited. In order to prepare and have actual number counts for food trucks we need you to sign up. Suggested donation is $135 per person. If you would like, you can always donate more and it’s very much appreciated.

The fly-in includes: your front-and-center seat to World Championship STOL Drag races, ALL firewood throughout the event, porta-potties, live entertainment, fireworks, and clean-up crew.

Returning for 2023: We have arranged for several amazing and delicious Food Trucks to be on site throughout the duration of the event serving breakfast lunch and dinner. Don’t forget to bring cash for food trucks and raffle tickets with over $25,000 in prizes!

CAMPING INFO

The HSF has a Leave No Trace Policy. What you bring in, you MUST pack out! When the event is over the desert needs to look as if we were never there! 

  • NO GLASS

  • No Pallets with nails

  • Pets welcome, however pets must be under control at all times.

  • Campers must police themselves late night. Late night racing of off road vehicles around camp and airplanes is not tolerated. In the past this was an issue and cannot happen again. Please help police this.

  • Pilots must have good tie downs.

  • Please use the designated shooting area if target shooting is your thing. This only enhances the safety of our event.

STOL Drag / STOL Registration

All competitors MUST go to STOLDRAG.com to sign up for STOL DRAG. All racers must pre-qualify for Saturday’s main event.

*Due to the limited number of allowed competitors, racers from years past have priority sign up. If you have not raced STOL DRAG before, you will need to qualify on Friday with a competitive time in order to race on Saturday.

HSF 2021 Food/Drinks Update and Event Information

Hello High Sierra Fly-in (HSF) Attendees,

We hope this finds you doing well and getting excited for the 12th annual HSF.

Pilots READ THE STOLTAM (v 2.1) for pilot prep.

Racers or those wanting to race STOL Drag at HSF will need to register for the actual race and training.

UPDATE (10/4/21): THERE IS NO NEED TO PRE-REGISTER OR PAY FOR FOOD.

Food Trucks will be available at the HSF starting Thursday October 14th, next to the main white tent.


Schedule:

Thursday: dinner

Friday: breakfast / lunch / dinner

Saturday: breakfast / lunch / dinner

Sunday: breakfast


Breakfast starts at 8am.

No pre-order necessary, it will be pay as you go. The 3 food trucks will be:

Today’s email will be going over:

Free coffee each morning with AOPA:

Swing by every morning to enjoy the hottest thing on the playa … free, fresh coffee with the AOPA crew.  Meet us in the main gathering tent Friday to Sunday, starting at 6:30am for morning coffee (until it runs out).

Check-in:

  •  As always, there will be a huge white gathering / main tent that is used for pilot briefings, hang out’s, and a central gathering place. It’s also next to the fire pit, and food trucks.

 

This year we will also have the HSF official check in tent near this main tent.

 

All attendees need to:

 

  • Come say hello & pick up your attendance wrist band.

 

Check in tent will also be the place for:

  • Purchase official HSF and STOL drag retail and raffle tickets

  • Pre-ordered retail: Will be here as well. We will hold your retail until Saturday at 6pm. Please remember, days / hours go into making pre-ordered retail bags, please don’t forget to pick it up or have your friend pick it up if you can’t make it by Saturday night.

 

 Desert / Aviation / Dogs / Kids:

  • We kindly ask you do not bring your dog / animals. If you must, they need to be on a leash at all times.

  • Children: Pilots / drivers / etc. There are lots of children running around.

 Parents: please have a talk with your children about safety, airplanes and keep them safe. Pilot’s: please do not start your engine until you roll your plane out of the camping area.

 Vehicles: please drive slow and look around. As we have had our 2 kids at the fly-ins for the last decade, we cannot stress enough the safety factor and that we all need to be responsible and reliable when it comes to keeping everyone safe.

Port-o-potties:

 -There will be around 36 this year at the HSF. They will get serviced regularly and will be placed throughout the fly-in area.

 Saturday:

 As always Saturday is a fun filled day at the HSF. The day starts with the National STOL Drag competition followed by a gathering at the massive fire pit (don’t forget your chair) food trucks for dinner, awards / raffle, an amazing nighttime sky show and ends with a live band. Bring your sunscreen and get ready for some fun!
